2025 iSAF Life Cycle Assessment Workshop
The Israeli Sustainable Aviation Fuel Knowledge Center (iSAF), supported by the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, held the 2025 SAF Life Cycle Assessment Workshop in Haifa, bringing together leading voices from academia, government, and industry to examine one of the most critical questions in the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuels: how to evaluate their environmental impact across the full life cycle.
The workshop focused on the role of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as a key decision-making tool for SAF research, policy, regulation, and implementation. Participants discussed methodological challenges, data gaps, certification needs, and the importance of transparent and science-based evaluation when comparing different SAF pathways. The discussions highlighted how LCA can support the development of responsible fuel technologies, from feedstock selection and production processes to emissions reduction and long-term sustainability.
Led by Prof. Sabrina Spatari from the Technion Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the workshop created a focused platform for interdisciplinary exchange between researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers. By connecting technical expertise with national needs, the event contributed to iSAF’s broader mission of building Israel’s SAF knowledge infrastructure and supporting the transition toward lower-carbon aviation.
