About Us
The Israeli Knowledge Center for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (iSAF), supported by the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, was established to provide advanced SAF research infrastructure, foster scientific and engineering leadership, encourage academia—industry collaborations, and disseminate knowledge for researchers, the public, and decision makers. The iSAF center is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of scientists: iSAF’s Doctoral Network includes students from across Israel working on various aspects of SAF research enjoying dedicated competitive scholarships. This dynamic ecosystem of researchers, students, and industry leaders accelerates advancements in sustainable aviation, positioning Israel as a leader in the field and driving the country towards its net-zero emissions goal by 2050.

Standards & Tests
In addition, the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the Technion is establishing a Tier 3 SAF testing facility—only the second of its kind worldwide—which will serve both the local and global research and industry communities.

Doctoral Network
These young researchers benefit from unique opportunities to collaborate, network with industry partners, present their work at the annual national conference, and gain exposure to scholarships and professional development resources.

Activities in Israel
Boeing – Technion SAF Innovation Center
Established in late 2023, the Boeing–Technion SAF Innovation Center is a leading force in the global effort to advance Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
The project focuses on the development and qualification of electrofuels (eSAF) produced via Power-to-Liquid (PtL) processes, using green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide.
Innovation Authority Consortium
In 2025, the Israel Innovation Authority allocated 100 million shekels to launch a national Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) consortium. This strategic collaboration brings together five leading industrial companies and six academic research groups to develop cutting-edge technologies for producing bio-based aviation fuel from renewable feedstocks. These include used cooking oil, solid organic waste, syngas, residues from the wood and paper industries, and recycled plastics.
Boeing Consortium
As part of the Boeing–Technion SAF Innovation Center, which focuses on the development of electrofuels (eSAF), a national consortium of leading Israeli stakeholders was established in late 2023.

Collaborations
iSAF’s infrastructure is provided via collaborations with top universities like the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and Bar-Ilan University. iSAF is driving innovation and advancing research in sustainable aviation fuels through academic and industry partnerships.
